I’ve resisted counting down my favourite numbers from Disney musicals up until this point, mainly because I’m afraid of my fangirl levels. But I like to think I have them somewhat under control.
Let’s just get this show on the road before I devolve any further.
1. God Help the Outcasts – The Hunchback of Notre Dame
Can we just take a moment to admire the choral ensemble in this piece? The harmonies are just exquiste. And I just love the smokey perfection that is Ciara Renee.
“I ask for nothing. I can get by. But I know so many, less lucky than I.” – Esmeralda
2. Sante Fe – Newsies
The sense of longing in palpable in this song. Every dreamer can relate to Jack’s desire to escape to a better place.
“Let me go. Far away. Somewhere they won’t ever find me, and tomorrow won’t remind me of today.” – Jack Kelly
3. If Only – The Little Mermaid
This quartet is so magically beautiful. Sierra Boggess *is* Ariel. But my favourite line…
“I’d give my life up to make it happen.” – Sebastian
4. Friend Like Me – Aladdin
The jazzy intro. The medley of Disney classics past. The tap interlude. The. James. Monroe. Iglehart. *mic drop*
5. They Live in You – The Lion King
Every song from this show is amazing but this one just absolutely tugs on the heartstrings. And the reprisal of the song is the perfect bookend.
“They live in you. They live in me. They’re watching over, everything that we see.” – Mufasa
6. If I Can’t Love Her – Beauty & the Beast
Absolutely haunting and heartbreaking.
“No pain could be deeper. No life could be cheaper. No point anymore.” – Beast
7. You’ll Be in My Heart – Tarzan
This is truly the perfect lullaby. And the feels are real.
“When destiny calls you, you must be strong. I may not be with you but you’ve got to hold on…” – Kala
8. Anything Can Happen – Mary Poppins
When I sing along to this I suddenly feel like I can do anything.
“Broaden your horizons. Open different doors. You may find a you there that you never knew was yours…” – Mary & Bert
9. Something to Believe In – Newsies
One of the prettiest love songs in a Broadway musical. I know strong statement.
“And if you’re gone tomorrow, what was ours still will be.” – Katherine & Jack
10. Out There – The Hunchback of Notre Dame
Michael Arden’s voice soars beautifully over the orchestra.
“What I’d give. What I’d dare. Just to live one day out there.” – Quasimodo
Bonus Disney goodness!
Because why not?! 360 degrees of Broadway magic.
Well, what songs are your favourite? Let us know in the comments!
‘Til next time,
