I enjoy a good horror movie any time of year, but for some reason there’s just something special about New Fall Horror Movies! Stephen King’s IT set the bar pretty high but I am looking forward to some of the upcoming New Fall Horror Movies, while there are some that I will probably avoid. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy a good campy horror film just as much as a quality, scary horror film, but there has to be just the right blend in order for it to work. Here is my list of New Fall Horror Movies. Some I am dying to see, and others I will pass on watching. Some of these have already been released, and some have yet to be released.
New Fall Horror Movies
The Houses October Built 2
If you haven’t seen The Houses October Built, I highly suggest it! I am really looking forward to watching this sequel which follows our original thrill-seekers from the first movie. This group of friends seeks out the scariest haunted houses imaginable and apparently they haven’t had enough! These movies beg the question, what if the actors inside the haunted house attraction really were out to get you? I will definitely be watching this one.

Jeepers Creepers 3
It’s been 14 years since Jeepers Creepers 2 was released. I loved the first Jeepers Creepers, and the sequel was okay too. I honestly don’t have high hopes for this threequel but it could surprise me. The plus side is that we may learn a little more about the Creeper’s back story in this movie. Will it leave us feeling creeped out, or will it leave us disappointed? I will give it a shot either way.

Don’t Sleep
When Zach and Shawn move into a new home, he begins to experience an awakening of memories from a childhood he forgot about. There seems to be hints of demonic possession in this trailer. It feels like there could be some good scares in store, this also seems like it could be a bit of a snoozer. Will I give it a shot? Possibly, if I’m bored and can’t find anything else to watch.
(Released September 29, 2017)
Cult of Chucky
I recently watched this movie and I have to say I enjoyed it. It’s really not scary in my opinion, but it is a good throwback to the original 3 Child’s Play movies. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed the Bride of Chucky but it did start to get pretty goofy from there. Don’t get me started on Seed….Curse of Chucky was actually pretty good and Cult was a good follow-up. This one takes place in a mental hospital following Nica from the Curse of Chucky. Multiple Chucky dolls start showing up, and we also see the return of Andy and Tiffany. I definitely recommend this if you want a fun Chucky movie that isn’t overly cheesy.
(Available now on Netflix)
Better Watch Out
This holiday themed Comedy Horror is being described as Home Alone meets The Strangers. I would say that’s pretty accurate. I know it’s a little early for a Christmas movie, but when that Christmas movie happens to be a horror I give it a slide. When unwelcome intruders invade the home of a 12-year old boy who has a friend over and is being cared for by a babysitter, they work together to plan some pretty diabolical traps to protect themselves. I will definitely give this one a shot!

Happy Death Day
What happens when you combine Groundhog Day with a horror movie? Happy Death Day! The lead character has to keep re-living her birthday over and over again, getting killed each time. She has to try and figure out who is killing her in order to stop the cycle. This actually seems like it’ll be a fun horror flick. Scary? Probably not. Campy? Maybe. But nonetheless it seems like it’ll actually be good. Especially since it’s produced by Blumhouse who also produced Get Out, The Purge, and The Visit. I will definitely check out Happy Death Day.

Leatherface
It’s about time we get an origin story for Leatherface! As long as it’s done right. This movie looks like it could be good, though I doubt it will be very scary. I could be wrong but I don’t see there being the twisted, gritty presence we got with Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Although if we’re getting a backstory on Leatherface then perhaps we’ll also see how the rest of his family became so twisted. All in all I think this movie could be good!

Tragedy Girls
In an effort to increase popularity on their blog, two death-obsessed girls kidnap a serial killer and force him to become their mentor. They go on a murder spree under a guise and then provide news coverage about the murders on their small town blog. This seems like it could be a fun slasher flick….I’m really starting to question my moral compass when I realize that I’ve said the words “fun” and “slasher flick” in the same sentence…
(Release date: October 20, 2017)
The Snowman
This thriller starring Michael Fassbender gives me Seven and Silence of the Lambs vibes, which is a good thing. When an investigation leads Detective Harry Hole to “The Snowman Killer” he is in for a game he will never forget. I am definitely looking forward to this serial killer horror flick as it has been a while since I’ve found one that gave me the Seven vibes. Plus Michael Fassbender…need I say more?
(Release date: October 20, 2017)
Jigsaw
Though Jigsaw has been dead for years, it seems there is a new copycat killer. I know what you’re thinking…does there really need to be ANOTHER Saw movie? The answer is OF COURSE! This movie is supposed to showcase some of Jigsaw’s best contraptions from all the movies so I am looking forward to seeing which ones make an appearance.
