Panels, panels, and more panels! There are a ton of things to do at SDCC, panels being one of the main events since it’s where you get to see your favourite celebrities, hear some behind the scenes stories and get sneak peeks of what is to come! If you didn’t follow our Twitter feed during SDCC, here’s a recap of the handful of panels we went to, 3 to be exact.
Star Wars: The Clone Wars
Jen:
I was really looking forward to this panel because if you don’t know already, I am a Star Wars fan and they are celebrating their 10-year anniversary! I always loved seeing pictures of the behind the scenes progress because it gives me a better appreciation for the project. So of course, my favourite part of this panel was seeing all the sketches from Executive Producer Dave Filoni. I’m still in the process of finishing the original series when we went to San Diego (it’s a work in progress), but I was super excited when they announced that Clone Wars was saved and will be airing new episodes on the new Disney streaming service, which usually means I probably won’t be able to watch it any time soon. But at least I know that the story will continue.
Rach:
We were treated to an avalanche of concept art from Dave Filoni’s archives and it was glorious. Ashley Eckstein’s reaction to rewatching Ahsoka’s last scene was incredibly heartwarming and precious. I was already a massive fan of hers and after the panel, I was even more so. The #CloneWarsSaved reveal was incredible. The room erupted into applause and the excitement in the room was palpable.

The Good Place
Jen:
Now this panel just cracked me up! We got into the room just in the nick of time to see the cast walk to their seats at the panel table. I thought it was a genius idea to have Marc Evan Jackson as the moderator. One of their own interviewing their own cast. Least to say, it was one of the most entertaining panels I have gone to. Sometimes you wonder if the actors are similar to their characters on the show, in this case, the cast’s humour is similar to what you see in the show. With the exception that Manny Jacinto is a lot smarter than his character Jason Mendoza. And Jameela Jamil really does have a British accent! Oh, and D’arcy Carden is just awesome in being able to switch on the humour of both Good and Bad Janet. Just don’t eat the fake shrimp. Kristen Bell says it tastes disgusting and she would know.
Rach:
First off, Marc Evan Jackson for President of the World. Yup. After waiting in our umpteenth line (Comic Con, lines, what?!) we were one of the lucky few that made it to the Good Place! And the panel was as off the wall as the show itself. My takeaways: Emmy nominated actor Ted Danson and Kristin Bell both think they’re going to make it to the real Good Place, Manny is way hotter than Jason, D’Arcy is more Bad Janet than Good Janet and is also my soulmate, Jameela is a sweetheart, and Will is the best spokesperson for ethics professors.
Where do the cast thinkntheybwill end up in?
.@IMKristenBell: We should do a ? or ? all at the same time@jameelajamil: (?) We’re all actors, what do you expect?
Kristen to @TedDanson: see ya there buddy. (?)#TheGoodPlace #SDCC #SDCC2018 #SDCC18 pic.twitter.com/eIg5N5rXB5— NC post #SDCC2018 ? (@nerdycurious) July 21, 2018
Big Hero 6: The Series
Jen:
A cute panel where you got to see the entire cast in one panel. I found it interesting that this is the first time the entire series cast has been in the same room – apparently, they all record their parts on separate days due to conflicting schedules. It was great to see them all interact with each other during the panel. My favourite part being the fun skit they did a table reading of as their characters from the show!
Rach:
Baymax, Hiro, Fred, Go Go, Wasabi, and Honey Lemon, together! The moment that sticks out in my mind was when a little fan told Baymax that she loved him. A fist bump followed and everyone in the audience drowned in feels. Scott is Baymax. No question. And I also loved the SDCC meta table read too.

Final Thoughts
Jen:
All the panels we went to were great, but the one regret I have is not just really going for it and just to try to get into Hall H. One day, I’ll bite the bullet and just go for it. And if you missed out on the live tweets, keep an eye out on our social medias for the next convention, where we will be live tweeting from as many panels as we can handle!
Rach:
I could have sworn we went to more panels, but that’s the way SDCC goes. When it comes to such a big con, it’s about prioritizing what you want to see. And I enjoyed every moment spent in those panel rooms.
‘Til next time!
