This past weekend I had the pleasure of visiting one of the few local cons that we have in my home town Plattsburgh, NY. I had heard about this charming gem of a con known as ROTACon held annually at the ROTA Gallery at 39 Bridge Street in Plattsburgh.
I was so impressed by what I saw on the tables, that I had to ask each person if they had their own shop. Surprisingly, about every table was a personal collection by that vendor. It always amazes me to see some of the awesome collections from fellow nerds (I was so tempted to buy the mint-in-box, deluxe Michael Myers figure!). There was a guy there that even had an Atari for sale! Shut up! I also saw a myriad of comic books, graphic novels, trading cards, Magic cards, video games, and movies.
The cosplayers hadn’t quite started piling in yet while I was there but I just had to capture these great cosplayers (That 4th Doctor had the personality down and everything! And he admired the Tom Baker scarf that I also was wearing).
I had a chance to sit down with Crystal Georgescu, the organizer of the event for the first time this year. Here is what she had to say:
J: I’m here at ROTACon 2015 with Crystal from the ROTA Gallery, how are you doing today, Crystal?
C: I’m doing fine, thank you.
J: So what can you tell us about ROTACon?
C: I believe this is the seventh annual ROTACon. I am the new coordinator for it, and I hope it goes well.
J: Do you hope to see this event grow and keep going on as an annual thing?
C: Yes, of course.
J: What are your goals? Do you hope to have a bigger location, more vendors, what are your goals for future ROTACons?
C: I hope to get a team of people together that are interested in together creating a better ROTACon, having varying ideas and concepts coming together to make the event great.
J: And what kind of things are going on at the con today?
C: We’ve got a bunch of vendors, we’ve got raffles that are going to start going off soon, and donations for future events….and cosplay!
J: Cosplay, yes! Check out the cosplay, I will have pictures posted of some of the cosplay I caught here, and you should check out the ROTA Gallery anyway cause they’ve got some awesome art on the walls. So how long is this event going on and I hear that there is some music going on after the event?
C: The event is going on from eleven til about six PM and we have a music show that will be occurring from seven PM til around ten.
J: Awesome, come check out ROTACon, 39 Bridge St. Plattsburgh!
If you didn’t get a chance to check out this event, check out the ROTA Gallery Facebook page to take a look at upcoming events, and give them a like so you can prepare yourself for next year’s con. If you can, please stop down and look at the amazing art and donate whatever you can. This money helps to fund future events brought to you by ROTA.

I hope you enjoyed this little peek into my hometown! As always, stay nerdy!
