Replicate This Fashion: La Muerte

Welcome, Nerds to Dia de los Muertos! To celebrate the Day of the Dead I thought I would bring you a makeup tutorial. One of the most commonly known symbols for Dia de los Muertos is the sugar skull, and one of my favorite movies is The Book of Life. So, I thought I would try to create a sugar skull makeup based on La Muerte, the Queen of the Land of the Remembered.

La Muerte is the estranged wife of Xibalba, the ruler of the Land of the Forgotten. She is an ancient, immortal goddess of benevolence, kindness, goodness, generosity, purity, forgiveness, mercy, hope, love, passion, light and death. The Book of Life tells the story of a little wager between La Muerte and Xibalba and well…I won’t spoil the rest for you!

La Muerte Makeup

The main makeup items you will need to recreate this look are:

  • Pale CC Cream or foundation
  • White cream makeup
  • White eye shadow or setting powder
  • Black eyeliners (both pencil and liquid)
  • Yellow and orange Halloween makeup crayons and/or eye shadows
  • Red lip liner
  • Teal eye shadow in a few different shades of light and dark
  • Red lipstick

That should be about it. Watch the video for the full tutorial!

I hope you’ve enjoyed this tutorial. If you’d like to see me do more makeup tutorials please let me know by liking the video, commenting on the video with requests, and subscribing to our YouTube channel!
