Everybody has their own Santa Fe. For me as a child, it was New York City. And that’s why Newsies has a special place in my heart. I realize the irony now of young Jack Kelly wanting to leave the Big Apple and me wanting to be where he was. There was something about Jack’s unwavering determination to travel to his dream city that struck a chord with me.
I’m alone but I ain’t lonely. For a dreamer, night’s the only time of day…
By the end of the movie, as an audience we realize almost the same time as Jack that home and family isn’t always a dream place far away, but right in front you.
All the warm and fuzzies.
Also, who didn’t have a crush on a teenage Christian Bale.
Just look at that face!
*ahem* Okay, before I get completely carried away, I’m going to pass the pape baton over to my fellow NC gals now 😉

I want to thank Disney’s Newsies for introducing me to the definition of cute boys, who could sing and dance. Seriously, that cast was insane! Christian Bale, Robert Duvall, Bill Pullman?!

Extra! Extra! Read all about it! Newsies are here to stay! What started out as a cult movie in 1992 has turned into a musical (one of my absolute favourites!), that says something about the longevity of the movie. The storyline to the music to the dancing, and yes, even the super heavy Brooklyn accents that make this a movie to remember! It’s never too late to seize the day!

I’ll never the day my good friend from high school gasped when he learned that I had not yet seen the movie Newsies. Immediately, he pulled his DVD copy out and said, “We are watching this. Now.” And I’m so glad we did. I loved the music and the dancing. My favorite song and the one that still stands out in my memory is “Seize the Day”. This is a message I think everyone should live by.
Well, I think it’s time for a re-watch. Are you a Newsies nerd? Let us know why you love the film in the comments below!
