A Nerd’s Menagerie: Sculpted in Steel

I like to describe Houston as a very rich stew; a yummy stew full of versatile flavors, cultures and events. I myself am a huge art nerd, and one of my favorite art movements happens to be Art Deco. From fashion to film, accessories, architecture; the elegance is just striking. Think Gatsby or the Empire State building, if you’re a local Houstonian you’ll recognize the style in the Deco-inspired Williams Tower (we all know it as Transco) in the Galleria area.

It was confirmed recently that my love for Art Deco seems to cover every spectrum when Sculpted in Steel came to my MFAH. I’ve always been a great admirer of classic cars; the lines just aren’t the same anymore! So, one day I’m scrolling through my FB feed when this graces my eyeballs…

I swore to myself I was not going to miss this exhibit. I went to the exhibit and took so many photos, I really wanted to share a few favorites below. I’ll keep my nerdy commentary to a minimum, so you can enjoy the beauty of streamline moderne!

May 27–29: Space City Con featuring the cast of Sons of Anarchy and more! We’re keeping our fingers crossed Charlie Hunnam will grace Houston with his presence!
June 3–5: Fan Expo Dallas is complete over the top, nerdgasm insanity. Definitely shaping up a must for Texan nerds!
June 17–19: Comicpalooza is also a must go con for nerds! With a revamped website and with pre-con events like the Costume Contest April 11–15 at Miller Outdoor Theatre, we are super excited to attend this year! Also, just check out that lineup. Just sayin’!
