Nerdie Foodie: Pi Day 2022

Pi Day is coming up in a few days which means here at Nerdie Foodie we’re going to be all about the pies! We’ve got you covered from savoury to sweet, hearty to fruity! Let’s go and check out these five diverse pie recipes!

A Pie of Ice and Fire

Love bacon and steak? Then this Game of Thrones inspired pie is for you! Completely made from scratch (the pie dough recipe is here), you’ve got steak as part of the main filling and a bacon lattice to cover the top of the pie! The Man, The Chef, The Dad shares with us his hearty pie recipe here!

Devonshire Squab Pie

While we’re on the topic of hearty savoury pies, I am obsessed with a segment on English Heritage’s Youtube channel called The Victorian Way, featuring Audley End House and Mrs. Crocombe’s cooking tutorials… you guessed it, the Victorian way! Check out the video tutorial below!

Marvel’s Legion: Cherry Pie

Ah! Cherry pie. A little bit of sass to complement the sweetness! A pie that you can’t go wrong if you use the real cherries in this Nerdie Foodie’s humble opinion. Feast of Starlight shares with us their from-scratch recipe here! As they mention in the recipe, adjust the sweetness level according to your preference.

Honeyed Pear and Gruyere Pie

Of course, we can’t forget to include pie-maker Ned from Pushing Daisies! This may sound like a strange combination, but the contrast between the sweetness from the honeyed pear and the saltiness from the gruyere cheese would be an amazing taste! Sugared Nerd shares with us their recipe here!

Coffee Ice Cream Pie

And finally, to keep us awake from going into an all-out pie coma, we’re going to throw in a little bit of caffeine in the form of coffee ice cream pie! This Gilmore Girls inspired pie recipe is vegan by Youtuber NikkiVegan. But don’t let that stop you from trying it because there are A LOT of goodies – chocolate, coffee beans, peanut butter cups, Oreo crust, and ice cream! Check out this recipe tutorial below!

And there you have it! Hope you get the chance to try one of these pie recipes out this weekend! Happy Pi Day Nerdie Foodies!
