Nerdie Foodie: Homemade Brown Sugar

Welcome to another Nerdie Foodie quick recipe for your pantry basics! This week’s recipe is homemade brown sugar! A staple for baking and cooking, and the perfect recipe if you have a lot of white sugar and leftover fancy molasses that’s about to expire. Let’s go!

What You’ll Need

Equipment Ingredients
Bowl (large enough to mix the ingredients by hand) Fancy Molasses
1 Tablespoon White Sugar
1 Cup  
Container

Directions

  1. In the bowl, pour in 1 cup of white sugar.
  2. Add in the molasses to the sugar 1 tablespoon at a time until you reach the desired colour you want your brown sugar to be.

*Tip: 1 Tablespoon of molasses will give you light brown sugar. 2 Tablespoons will give you a slightly darker brown sugar. The more molasses you use, the darker your sugar will be in colour.
  1. Mix the molasses and white sugar together with your hand until all the white sugar is completely brown in colour.

  2. Store the homemade sugar in an airtight container for future recipe use.

End Results

This recipe is so easy to make, multiply in quantity, and modify to a person’s liking.
