Welcome to another Nerdie Foodie quick recipe for your pantry basics! This week’s recipe is homemade brown sugar! A staple for baking and cooking, and the perfect recipe if you have a lot of white sugar and leftover fancy molasses that’s about to expire. Let’s go!
What You’ll Need
|Bowl (large enough to mix the ingredients by hand)||Fancy Molasses|
|1 Tablespoon||White Sugar|
- In the bowl, pour in 1 cup of white sugar.
- Add in the molasses to the sugar 1 tablespoon at a time until you reach the desired colour you want your brown sugar to be.
|*Tip: 1 Tablespoon of molasses will give you light brown sugar. 2 Tablespoons will give you a slightly darker brown sugar. The more molasses you use, the darker your sugar will be in colour.|
- Mix the molasses and white sugar together with your hand until all the white sugar is completely brown in colour.
- Store the homemade sugar in an airtight container for future recipe use.
This recipe is so easy to make, multiply in quantity, and modify to a person’s liking. It prolongs the life of the molasses that is about to expire on its own (bonus!), and it’s useful for your meal recipes and baking! What more can this Nerdie Foodie want?
