Nerdie Foodie: Fan Expo Vancouver 2019

Welcome back Nerdie Foodies! Man, what a whirlwind of a weekend it has been with Fan Expo Vancouver. Like any other con, we go out to eat and I usually don’t end up writing about the places we’ve been to. But this year, that’s all going to change. Vancouver has a great food scene and it’s about dang time that I showcased it in a post for y’all. So here is where we dined at this past weekend!

Show Floor Food Court

This year the food court inside the con was more visible than previous years. There wasn’t a large selection by any means, but there was still a good variety of choices which included a mini doughnuts and lemonade stand, a pakora stall (Varinicey Pakoras) and the usual convention fare section that had everything from fruit cups to hot dogs to quinoa salad! We ended up getting the roast beef sandwich and the Mushroom Bomb pakoras with all 3 sauces (yogurt, pickled ginger, and mango)! The roast beef was a tad dry, but other than that it was pretty good. But the pakoras were super tasty and completely gluten free and vegetarian. And out of all the sauces, the yogurt sauce was my favourite!

Mahony & Sons (Burrard Landing)

This place is awesome. It’s a modern Irish Pub and has all the classics like bangers and mash, Irish stew, Shepard’s pie, etc. They also have a seasonal menu which was what we ordered from as well as gelato from James Coleridge’s Uno Gelato, along with live music. To say we were stoked is an understatement! The food was plentiful and delicious! We ordered a Pimm’s Cup, the meatball sliders, caprese flatbread, squash and lentil curry, and a scoop each of the mint chocolate chip gelato and lemon sorbet! Just note when ordering the gelato, the 1 scoop and 2 scoop prices are for a single flavour. We are definitely coming back to try the shepard’s pie and Irish stew! Check out their website here.

Cactus Club Café (Coal Harbour)

This is a chain restaurant and despite being a chain, the food is delicious. We have yet to have a terrible meal here. We had the mini crispy chicken sandwiches, chicken tenders, fresh greens salad, and the molten chocolate lava cake with the ice cream on the side! Super crunchy outside for the chicken and juicy chicken meat inside that was not dry at all. These crispy chicken pieces were cooked perfectly! They have a wide variety of dishes, including more plant-based meals. Check out their website here!

Overall, every meal we had during Fan Expo Vancouver we delicious! Just keep in mind that all the restaurants around the Canada Place (the convention center here) is typically slightly more spending because it is located in what we call the Waterfront/Coal Harbour area. But other than that, we had a fabulous time eating our way through the con as always.
