Nerdie Foodie: 20 Years of Harry Potter

Welcome Nerdie Foodies to the world of Harry Potter! 20 years ago, on June 26, 1997, JK Rowling gifted us book lovers with the magical world of Harry Potter, Hogwarts, Hogsmeade, Diagon Alley and Platform 9 ¾ just to name a few. To celebrate, we are plunging into all things Harry Potter! Check it out!

Sorting Hat Cupcakes

First, one cannot simply attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in the upcoming school term without being sorted into the respective houses of Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Slytherin and Hufflepuff. Michelle and Kirby (from Glü Crafted) share with us their tutorial on making cupcakes to sort your friends into their houses! Check out the recipe here!

Sherbert Lemon (aka Lemon Drops)

These delightful citrus candies are a favourite of Headmaster Albus Dumbledore. If you want to try your hand at making candy, you can find Bryt Taylor’s recipe (from In Literature) here and if you’re still stuck (no pun intended) and need a visual, check out the accompanying YouTube tutorial below!

Polyjuice Potion Smoothie

What is Hogwarts without a Potions making class? This one is simple enough that I don’t think you will need Hermione’s help in creating this potion. Thanks to Miss Kitchen Witch, this potion is vegan friendly! Check out the recipe here!

Dragon Deviled Eggs

It’s not a wizarding world without a few dragons. Heck, even Hagrid tried to keep a dragon’s egg to hatch! This time, you can hatch your own dragon eggs thanks to Brandy (from Simply Potter)! Check out her recipe here for making your own deviled dragon eggs. If you need a visual of each step, check out the accompanying YouTube tutorial below!

Pumpkin Howlers

Normally, you don’t want to get Howlers in your daily mail. However, these pumpkin Howlers may change your mind, thanks to Jenn Fujikawa (from Food & Wine). These fried desserts look like they want some attention though, so you better watch yourself and check out the recipe here!

Pumpkin Juice

This is one refreshing drink even for the summer months! Erica, Echo and Emily (from Favorite Family Recipes) share with us their recipe for pumpkin juice which apparently tastes exactly like the one you can find at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Orlando. You be the judge and let us know! Check out the recipe here! Note: Recipe is found near the bottom of the post.

Florean Fortescue’s Butterbeer Ice Cream

Nothing like a hot summer’s day than to cool off with some ice cream! Even better, why not try Bryt’s version which is the 1400’s butterbeer recipe? This ice cream does contain alcohol, so please keep that in mind if you try this recipe. You can find the recipe here and the accompanying YouTube video below! Note: This recipe requires an ice cream maker, or if you know how to make ice cream without an ice cream maker, even better!

Luna Lovegood’s Pudding

If you had to describe Luna Lovegood as a dessert, you can very well picture this trifle pudding. Bright, sparkly, unique. And did we mention pink? Definitely heavy on the pink! To help us create such a dessert, Teri (from Spoon Fork Bacon) shares with us her fun and sparkly trifle recipe here!

There we have it! I hope you’ve been embracing your inner witchcraft or wizardry in the kitchen this weekend. In honour of this momentous occasion, we have a Harry Potter themed giveaway for our Canadian nerds here at NC headquarters! You still have 7 days to enter, and you can find out how here! Good luck!

Happy 20th Anniversary Harry Potter and JK Rowling! Here’s to another 20 plus years. Cheers!
