Nerd It Happy: 2017 Films To Watch

Get your favourite movie snacks ready (popcorn, layered butter, thanks) because the NC gals have gathered our film picks that are making their way to the big screen this year! Roll ’em!

Rach’s Pick: Beauty and the Beast

Release Date: March 17

The highly anticipated live action version of Beauty and the Beast is finally hitting theaters! This tale as old as time has a special place in my heart and I cannot wait for Emma Watson to take on the iconic role of Belle. I got instant chills watching the full trailer and with a star studded cast from Ewan McGregor, Emma Thompson, Ian McKellen, Kevin Klein, Josh Gad, and the list goes on, this is sure to become a classic just like its animated predecessor. I can’t wait!!! *starts humming Be Our Guest*

Jen’s Pick: Guardians of the Galaxy – Vol. 2

Release Date: May 5

So, I finally had the time and chance to watch Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1 as one of my last movies of 2016. I may be super slow when it comes to keeping up with movies, but I do eventually get around to see them. To say that I’m excited for Guardians Vol. 2 is an understatement! Ever since I saw the trailer for it in the theater for Rogue One, it has me wanting more. I mean who can resist the cuteness that is Baby Groot??? Seriously, that face, the voice, “I am Grooooooot”. You hear it, right? I sure as heck do! I want me some Baby Groot! No offense to Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket, or that crazy shrink alien chick – that had to be some sort of group therapy session, right? Anyhoo, I’m ready to rock to another great mixtape of 70’s and 80’s tunes (throw in some 90’s in there too). Are you?

Roni’s Pick: Spider-Man: Homecoming

Release date: July 7th

For many Marvelites we never thought it would actually happen… Spider-Man has always been a beloved hero and Stan Lee’s ultimate brain baby. After Tobey and Andrew, we never thought Sony would let go of the character, but here we are. After many corporate shenanigans, it came to light that Spidey would finally be coming home to the MCU in a joint venture between both studios. Yay circumstances! After his appearance in Civil War, Tom Holland’s chemistry with RDJ’s Tony and Chris’ Cap proved exciting. I cannot wait to see the first Spidey stand-a-lone, and his role in the MCU with our other heroes!

Jaime’s Pick:Star Wars: Episode VIII

Release date: December 15th

In 2015, we got our first Star Wars sequel in many years. At the movie’s end, Rey had found Luke and extended his lightsaber to him for an awkwardly long amount of time… But DAMN, that movie was good! Since then we’ve had so many questions: Who are Rey’s parents? Is she a Skywalker? Who is Snoke? Will Kylo Ren return to the light side? The movie had already finished filming before the passing of our beloved Carrie Fisher.

Fans can plan to see the return of heroes played by cast members Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Anthony Daniels and Lupita Nyong’o. We will also see a lineup of villains such as Adam Driver’s Kylo Ren, Andy Serkis’s Supreme Leader Snoke, Domhnall Gleeson’s General Hux, and Gwendoline Christie’s Captain Phasma. Benicio del Toro also joins the cast, most likely as a villain. Instead of having JJ Abrams at the helm, this go around we will have Looper director Rian Johnson, though Abrams will be sticking around as Executive Producer.

I am thoroughly looking forward to a new episode in the Star Wars saga!

Honourable mention goes to Thor: Ragnarok. I mean, c’mon the cast alone!

What are all of you looking forward to see in the theatres this year? Leave your suggestions in the comments below!

Be nerdy always,
Rach
