This May the 4th will be our four-year blogiversary and will be our third year to attend Dallas FanExpo! FXD quickly became one of our favorite conventions, due to its organization, diverse programming, and vendor hall. If you have never attended, we cannot recommend it enough! If you are a convention veteran and prefer to not be overwhelmed by a giant con size like SDCC, then Dallas Fan Expo is for you. In turn, if you are a convention newbie, Dallas Fan Expo is a great one for you.
Things to look forward to!
Guest Photo Ops and Autographs
A staple for all nerd culture conventions are the celebrities and artists present so you can get that photo and/or autograph of your dreams. Dallas has always done a great job of providing rare opportunities. This year is no different. If you have the funds and time, you need to attend this musical event with the legendary Lynda Carter!
If you missed it last year, you can dive deep into a nostalgia bubble and relive your childhood by taking a photo with the The Goonies or the Back to the Future crew!

You also have many voice legends like Bryce Papenbrook and Tara Strong, and comic book legends like Jim Lee.
One of the main reasons we are attending is due to our nerd love for Zachary Levi. Rachel and myself will be there representing NC, Michelle from NerdyGras, and two of our other nerdy fam members will all be in attendance. Yay to mini nerd family reunions!!! Personally, I’m also looking forward to finally getting a photo with my evil queen, Lana Parilla! Swoon!
Activities
Cosplay is king! Cosplay will never stop being a highlight for us. The nerd community is full of the most creative and inspired humans on the planet, and we are always looking forward to what folks come up with. If you’re awesome, we will be taking photos of you.
This year Dallas FanExpo has partnered with Portable Escapes to bring some nerdy and magical escape rooms to all of you Harry Potter fans! For $20 you can take a potions exam or escaping the vault!
If you don’t have the funds to buy photos or autographs you can always aim to attend your fave celebrity’s panel. Make sure you download the FXD app to receive updates on the schedule. It is totally worth downloading the app to get the most of the experience.
General Etiquette
Like any event with a large number of humans in a space, there are some general golden rule style etiquette to dos to make everyone’s experience a good one.
- Cosplay is not consent – ask before taking photos/videos. Cosplayers have a right to say no, so please respect them. Don’t be a dick.
- Bring deodorant – this is a must. Don’t be a dick.
- Be aware of your surroundings – make sure you’re not going to poke someone’s eye out with your props or poster roles, don’t block a walkway or create a foot traffic jam, follow the convention rules and listen to volunteers. Don’t be a dick.
- Don’t skip lines – settle in and bond with your line neighbors. Don’t be a dick.
- Pack snacks and water – try not to get hangry. Don’t be a dick.
- Also, don’t be a dick.
If you’re ready to have a blast, you can get your FXD tickets, HERE. Passes are a steal at $25 for an adult one day and $20 for kids. Let us know if you’re planning to attend and say hi if you see us!
