Merry Nerdmas, gamer nerds! We’ve gotten a mega unveiling 2017 Game Releases in trailers throughout the year between E3, The Game Awards, and PlayStation Experience 2016. My mind cannot even process how many awesome-looking games are being released in 2017. I haven’t gamed in quite a while because, well, to be honest I am much more of an old-school gamer. I have found many modern video games to be not quite my style. However, these are some of the games coming out in 2017 that I am actually looking forward to.
2017 Game Releases
The majority on this list came from PlayStation Experience so the majority of the games listed are shown on the PS4. Many of the games offer special content if you pre-order. Luckily for you I have included pre-order links for as many as I could find!
Resident Evil 7: Biohazard
If you know anything about me, you know how much I love a good survival horror, my favorite of which is the Resident Evil franchise (check out my RE 20th Anniversary article here!). For a while now I have not found an RE game that gave me the feeling that I used to get from the old-school RE games. Sure some of them had cheesy voice acting; sure the graphics weren’t great in the older games; sure the controls were clunky AF, but those were my RE games.
The RE games of late have seemed like more of an action shooter with horror elements thrown in than the kind of survival horror I am drawn to. When I played the demo for this upcoming RE game I was pleasantly surprised. It’s not everyone’s cup of tea, I know. It does seem a bit Silent Hill, very reminiscent of that PT demo we all fell in love with before our dreams were crushed! So far I have not seen any of the familiar characters from past games in the series but I think that can be okay as long as this game brings us back to what made RE great: the scares! Check out the trailer below.

Release date: January 24, 2017
Death Stranding
I’ve seen two trailers for this game now and I STILL have no idea what it is about. I just know that it looks gorgeous and creepy, it’s starring Naked Norman Reedus, there’s a baby, Guillermo del Toro, and Hideo Kojima. This first trailer was released at E3:
We were treated to this newest trailer at the Game Awards:
Release date: December 29, 2017
Pre-order Death Stranding for PS4
Days Gone
This game appears to take place in a post-apocalyptic world overrun by zombies or zombie-like creatures. These things can run and climb. Yay. Still this game looks pretty badass, albeit a tad overwhelming as well. Check out the trailer from E3:
Release date: December 29, 2017
Horizon Zero Dawn
I’ve been intrigued by this beautiful looking game since the first trailer we saw from E3. We got a new trailer and even a glimpse at gameplay at PlayStation Experience. In this world, mankind has fallen. The land has been reclaimed by the Earth, and animals are somehow cyborg creatures. The main character looks pretty badass too.
Release date: February 28, 2017
Pre-Order Horizon Zero Dawn for PS4
Detroit Become Human
So….I guess it’s kinda like Almost Human as a video game? I don’t know but it looks pretty interesting. Ever since playing Heavy Rain and Until Dawn I really like games in which you have to make choices and react to certain time sensitive events. This trailer was released at E3:
Release date: December 29, 2017
Pre-Order Detroit Become Human for PS4
South Park: The Fractured But Whole
If you’re not a fan of South Park or things that are generally inappropriate, crude, and indecent then this might not be for you. The Stick of Truth was a really good game in all honesty. You can get The Stick of Truth free with the purchase of The Fractured But Whole, and if you pre-order you can get the Towely bonus content. The trailer says release is December 6th but that release date got pushed back.
Release date: March 31, 2017
Pre-Order South Park: The Fractured But Whole for PS4 OR

Kingdom Hearts 3
This game and this trailer has actually been teased to us for about three years now. This trailer was released at E3 in 2015. We are finally approaching the light at the end of the tunnel! I love Kingdom Hearts. These games are full of nostalgia. I wonder what strange new worlds we shall explore in this game…
Release date December 29, 2017
Pre-Order Kingdom Hearts III for PS4
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (Switch, Wii U)
This is probably the only non-PS4 title I have featured on this list. This game is compatible with the Wolf Link amiibo. Remember the days when you had to defeat twelve dungeons? How about over 100 shrines? This game is very open world, allowing you to explore as you like. I am quite excited for a new Zelda game!
Release date for Wii U: March 31, 2017
Pre-Order The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild for Wii U
The Last of Us 2
Yes, my friends. It looks so pretty. The Last of Us had such an amazing story. It was like playing a movie. I actually enjoyed the cut scenes even more than the gameplay. I am looking forward to seeing where this game takes us. Sit back and enjoy this beautiful song trailer revealed at PlayStation Experience:
Release date: TBA
Wow…December of 2017 is going to be a crazy busy month for gamers! It’s too bad that those December games won’t be released before Christmas of 2017, but you can at least pre-order them for the gamer in your life (or yourself!). I hope that I have given you some ideas for gifts you can pre-order for any gamers on your gift giving list! Let me know what you think of these upcoming games and if there are any others that you are looking forward to as well.
Stay Nerdy!
