Nerdstalgia: Honey I Shrunk the Kids

In 1989, Disney produced the epic family science-fiction film Honey, I Shrunk the Kids. Rick Moranis stars in this movie as inventor Wayne Szalinski. Things go awry when one of his inventions shrinks his children to the size of ants. Let’s travel back to the 80’s and think small!

Jams’ View

This movie meant so much for me as a child. It shaped my love for science; it made me appreciate bugs a lot more; always made me crave Cheerios; and of course Rick Moranis was my first nerd crush.

I often wondered what it would be like to suddenly be half an inch tall. I also became fascinated with ants after seeing this movie and would often build “ant cities” in my backyard. If you have not seen this movie you are seriously missing out. It’s funny, it’s exciting, super cute, and a feel-good family movie that gives me major nostalgia feels.

I think I’ll go have some Cheerios now.

Roni’s View

I was 7 years old when I first saw this movie, and it blew my mind! It set my imagination on fire as a small child that I would not feel again until four years later with Jurassic Park. It was the first movie to peak my interest in movie magic. I spent most of my time after that imagining what it would be like to be the size of an ant. Aw, Anty. I was much nicer to ants after that.
